NFL player turned congressional candidate speaks at GOP dinner

By Jordan Fabian - 02/26/10 03:22 PM ET

NFL lineman Jon Runyan made one of his first political addresses since throwing his hat in the ring as a GOP challenger to Rep. John Adler (D-N.J.)

Runyan, who is one of several Republicans looking to unseat the freshman Democrat, spoke at the Camden County GOP dinner on Thursday night.

The long time Philadelphia Eagles player, who played for the San Diego charges last year, said he will retire from football to run for Congress but he has not made either move official.

Though Adler currently represents New Jersey's third district, it has long been controlled by Republicans.

Runyan mostly spoke about his personal background and why he wants to run for Congress.
