What might go down as the most disappointing campaign of the 2010 cycle has come to an end. Springfield, Ore., Mayor Sid Leiken (R) has decided not to run against Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) after all.

Leiken began the campaign with all the makings of a superior candidate ready to take the reins in a tough district if DeFazio ran for governor.

DeFazio never ran for governor, Leiken got in trouble for paying campaign funds to his mother (not a pollster) to "conduct a poll," and then he didn't raise barely any money for the actual campaign.

Leiken is instead running this May for the Lane County board of commissioners.

"All politics is local," Leiken told the Eugene Register-Guard. "That’s really what it comes down to."

Yeah, what he said.
