Donnelly's switch to 'no' heartens GOP

By Aaron Blake - 03/10/10 02:02 PM ET

Indiana state Rep. Jackie Walorski (R) and the NRCC are smiling.

Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) has said he will flip his 'yes' vote to a 'no' vote over the abortion language in the health care bill, calling it a "fatal flaw."

Donnelly, who supported the Stupak Amendment in the first health care bill, has since seen Walorski emerge as a solid challenger. Donnelly has also lost the assistance of Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) at the top of the ballot, with Bayh's retirement announcement last month.

Donnelly is a lower-tier target, but that has to make the GOP even happier to see him to switch his vote. If Donnelly bails, then what of those with an even tougher political season ahead of them?
