Dukies in both Kentucky primaries

By Aaron Blake - 03/15/10 11:35 AM ET

I wrote this morning about how the NCAA basketball tournament played into Kentucky's Democratic Senate primary. Well, it turns out one of the Republicans in the race is also a Dukie.

Trey Grayson's campaign goes up with perhaps its most potent hit on Rand Paul to date: a video of Paul admitting he is "a Duke Blue Devil" (he went to medical school there):

The primary is May 18, so this stuff may be fresh in people's minds. Paul and fellow Dukie Jack Conway (D) better hope their Blue Devils and Kentucky don't meet in the semifinals in early April (where one half of the Ballot Box will be present).

UPDATE 12:55 p.m.: Conway's campaign wants no part of this.

"As a long time college basketball fan, it's unfortunate that Daniel Mongiardo's campaign has decided to cheapen America's greatest sporting event by injecting lowbrow political attacks into the NCAA tournament," Conway spokeswoman Allison Haley said. "Additionally, Jack's bracket has UK winning it all, so our campaign is not in a position to accept this bet since the spirit of it conflicts with our candidate's bracket."
