Dems keep Wexler seat

By Aaron Blake - 04/13/10 09:30 PM ET

Florida state Sen. Ted Deutch (D) has won the special election to replace former Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.).

Deutch had about 61 percent of the vote with more than half of precincts reporting, while Republican contractor Ed Lynch was taking about 36 percent of the vote. The race has been called by AP.

Deutch was the heavy favorite heading into Tuesday night in a strongly Democratic district. Republicans didn't do much to contest the race.

Wexler resigned in late 2009 to head up a Middle East think tank.
