Obama and Al Green stay together but the president won't sing

By Amie Parnes - 02/17/12 12:57 AM ET

SAN FRANCISCO — President Obama had a chance to use his pipes and sing another Al Green tune at a fundraiser Thursday night but he passed up the opportunity.

Obama — who made headlines last month for singing the first line of Green's popular hit "Let's Stay Together," at the famed Apollo Theater in New York — could have sung a duet with Green, who attended a fundraiser here on Thursday night.

But Obama let the soul legend do the singing this time.

"I took a chance at the Apollo and I'm not going to take a chance again," Obama said as the crowd laughed.

"After reelection, I might go on tour ... be his opening act," he quipped. "I don't want to lose any further votes because of my singing voice."
