David Ortiz finishes third in Boston mayoral race

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz finished third in Boston's mayoral race, despite not appearing on the ballot, according to WGBH News.

Ortiz led the way in write-in votes, a sign of how beloved 'Big Papi' is in his sports-crazed hometown. But it's not his highest prize: Ortiz won this year's World Series MVP award after batting .688 in the series.

Mayor-elect Marty Walsh (D) narrowly won the race to replace longtime Boston Mayor Tom Menino (D), who is retiring.
