Cain says 'government reform' code for rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
Herman Cain said Friday he remains committed to helping Republicans regain control of the White House and Congress during a typically impassioned speech Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Chicago.
"Even though I'm no longer seeking the position, I'm still on the mission to keep control of the House, take back the Senate, and get Barack Obama out of the White House," Cain said.
The former rival of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said that he fully supports the GOP candidate, and told conservatives "the only thing that can stop us in November is us."
He said conservatives should look to replace, rather than reform, aspects of government they disagreed with.
"One of the most dangerous words in Washington, ,D.C., is 'reform.' That's code for 'we're going to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic one more time,' " Cain said.
And Cain, of course, made another plug for his 9-9-9 tax plan.
"Next year this insane tax code will be 100 years old," Cain said. "I have a birthday present for the tax code on its 100th birthday: bye bye!"
Cain promised a college "truth tour" before the fall and urged supporters to donate to his Cain Solutions super-PAC. He also said conservatives needed to fight on past November.
"Once we replace the occupant of the White House we've also got to hold our newly elected leader's feet to the fire. Washington, D.C. has become a big-government giant, a big-government Goliath, taking away our liberties, imposing ridiculous regulations on businesses in this country," Cain said.
