George P. Bush running for statewide office in Texas

By Cameron Joseph - 03/12/13 04:25 PM ET

George P. Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and nephew of former Texas Gov. George W. Bush (R), officially filed to run for statewide office in Texas on Tuesday.

Bush is running for Texas agriculture commissioner, a position that's been a springboard to higher office for some in the state. The race his first political campaign.

The 36 year old attorney and real estate investor has an attractive profile for a statewide candidate. Besides his obvious name recognition and political connections, he's also Latino and fluent in Spanish — his mother grew up in Mexico, where she and his father first met.

His father has also reentered the political fray — Jeb Bush has been touting a new book on immigration and hasn't ruled out a big for the presidency.
