The ad features clips of Republican lawmakers downplaying the effects of the shutdown as a narrator calls it "irresponsible," "reckless" and "destructive."

"The government shutdown is hurting veterans, seniors and our kids. Now Tea Party Republicans are threatening an economic shutdown — refusing to pay our nation's bills, endangering American jobs," a narrator says.

It's the first on-air foray into the shutdown fight from President Obama's advocacy arm, and it comes as a series of polls have shown Republicans taking blame for the shutdown as it stretches into its second week.
