Poll: Sherrod Brown's lead narrowing in Ohio

By Josh Lederman - 02/03/12 01:28 PM ET

Sen. Sherrod Brown's (D-Ohio) lead over state Treasurer Josh Mandel (R) is narrowing, although Brown is still 11 points ahead of his Republican rival, a new poll showed.

Brown leads Mandel 47-36 in a survey released Friday by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling. When the firm polled the race in November, Brown was up 15 points on Mandel.

Mandel has also made slight gains in his name recognition, upping it from 33 to 39 over the last three months. But his unfavorable rating has also increased, from 19 percent in November to 25 precent in February.

The poll of 820 Ohio voters was conducted Jan. 28-29 using automated telephone interviews, and had a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
