Poll: Obama's lead shrinks in Michigan

By Daniel Strauss - 10/08/12 06:11 PM ET

A new poll finds President Obama's lead shrinking in Michigan, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The poll, conducted by EPIC-MRA and reported by the Free Press on Monday, has Obama leading Mitt Romney 48 percent to 45 percent among 600 likely voters.

The new findings are a drop from a month ago, when EPIC-MRA found Obama leading Romney by 10 percentage points, 47 percent to 37 percent.

Undecided voters shrank as well compared to the poll's September findings, the poll found. In September, 16 percent of those surveyed said they were undecided. By contrast, the latest poll shows 7 percent undecided.

"Romney has come back like gangbusters," EPIC-MRA President Bernie Porn said, according to the Free Press. "Whether or not it’s long-lasting, only time will tell, but probably the remaining debates will be key."

The poll, taken after the first presidential debate, found a majority said Romney won the Wednesday debate. About 66 percent of those surveyed in the poll said Romney won the debate, while 12 percent said Obama won. Eight percent said the debate was a draw.

The poll had a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
