Poll shows Obama with 4-point lead in Ohio

By Daniel Strauss - 10/09/12 04:14 PM ET

President Obama leads Mitt Romney by 4 percentage points in Ohio, a new poll found.

The CNN/Opinion Research poll released Tuesday found Obama and Vice President Biden leading Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan 51 percent to 47 percent among likely Ohio voters and 53 percent to 43 percent among registered voters.

The poll's finding comes as both the Obama campaign and Romney campaign are holding a number of speeches in Ohio and the surrounding Midwestern states over the next week.

Right around the time the Ohio poll was released, the Romney campaign announced a number of campaign events in the Buckeye State on Wednesday.

This most recent CNN/Opinion Research poll will be welcome news for the Obama campaign after a disappointing performance at the first presidential debate last week and a recent poll by Pew Research that found Romney holding a 4-percentage-point lead nationally.

The poll was conducted among 1,020 participants from Oct. 5 to Oct. 8. It had a total sampling margin of error of 3 percentage points.
