DNC reveals finalists for 2012 convention

By Shane D'Aprile - 07/01/10 08:35 AM ET

The four cities the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has named finalists to host the 2012 Democratic convention — Charlotte, N.C.; Cleveland; Minneapolis; and St. Louis.

Three of the cities are in states won by President Barack Obama in 2008: North Carolina, Ohio and Minnesota. Republican Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) edged Obama by a point in Missouri.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine announced the finalists in an e-mail to supporters. A final decision is expected by the end of the summer.

As the party occupying the White House, Democrats will have their convention the week of Sept. 3 — a week after Republicans will nominate a candidate in Tampa, Fla.
