Just days after giving a high-profile speech that led many to believe he will run for president in 2012, New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg was about as Shermanesque as possible in denying a run.

"No way, no how," Bloomberg told NBC's "Meet the Press."

Bloomberg railed against Washington in an address last week that fueled speculation, similar to 2008, that he was gearing up for an independent bid for the presidency.

But Bloomberg said Sunday: "I'm not going to run for president."

In fact, the mayor was complimentary of the job President Obama is doing, crediting the president for finding a compromise on tax cuts.

"I think we don't give him enough credit," Bloomberg said.
