Gary Johnson gets line of the night in debate

By Cameron Joseph - 09/22/11 10:52 PM ET

Libertarian-leaning former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson seemed nervous through much of Thursday's GOP debate, but he pulled himself together for one of evening's more memorable lines.

"My next-door neighbor's two dogs have created more shovel-ready jobs than this current administration," Johnson joked. The Republican audience laughed and clapped heartily, as did some of the GOP contenders on stage with Johnson.

It's unclear whether the line will earn Johnson a spot in the next GOP debate — but if not, he'll be remembered for one of the stronger turns of phrase in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney agreed: He joked he'll have trouble getting the image of the dogs out of his mind.
