Perry running Fox News ad blitz
Rick Perry is seeking to use his biggest asset — a large campaign warchest — to help make up for his recent debate flub, in which he had a major brain freeze and couldn't name the third government department he would hope to close as president.
Perry's campaign has put $1 million behind running an ad previously aired in Iowa and New Hampshire on Fox News that touts him as a "doer" and downplays the importance of debates.
"If you're looking for a slick politician or a guy with great teleprompter skills, we already have that, and he’s destroying our economy," Perry says in the ad. "I'm a doer, not a talker."
The campaign's big investment is aimed at wooing back voters who had seen clips of the debate and are concerned about Perry's ability to go toe-to-toe with President Obama in a debate. It also shows that Perry's campaign is concerned national perceptions of him will harden based solely on debate clips, which could hurt fundraising.
