Sen. Pryor: No plans to campaign actively for Obama

By Josh Lederman - 04/10/12 08:53 AM ET

Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor (D) will stay away from actively campaigning for President Obama’s reelection, he said Monday, noting a desire to avoid presidential politics.

“My view is, Democrat, Republican, it doesn’t matter, my view is I’m in Washington to try to work with people,” Pryor told The City Wire.

Pryor, a second-term senator, is not on the ballot this year, but will face reelection in 2014. He was reelected without GOP opposition in 2008, having positioned himself as a centrist who could work well with both parties.

Pryor said whether Republicans win control of the White House and Senate is secondary to his focus on seeking solutions.

“I’m not there to represent a president,” Pryor said. “I think that is one thing that I think people in Arkansas understand, but nationally people have forgotten this.”
