Cash-strapped Minnesota state GOP given eviction notice

By Cameron Joseph - 04/23/12 11:42 AM ET

The Minnesota state Republican Party has failed to pay rent on its main offices in St. Paul and has been served an eviction notice, according to Politics in Minnesota.

The impending eviction is the latest bad sign for the state party — and Minnesota Republican candidates hoping for some support.

The cash-strapped state party is in disarray: a private memo that was leaked to the press earlier this month detailed a party with empty bank accounts and on the brink of collapse. The eviction notice charges that the party owes nearly $100,000 in unpaid rent, just a fraction of the $1 million or so they owe vendor and credit companies.

This does not bode well for the party's chances to seriously contest the state at the presidential level, protect vulnerable freshman Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.) and potentially vulnerable Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), or play offense against Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) or Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.).
