Vice President Biden talks Florida Everglades as Fla. Sen. Rubio campaigns with Romney

By Daniel Strauss - 04/23/12 02:36 PM ET

Vice President Biden delivered a speech on the Obama administration's efforts to preserve the Florida Everglades while Mitt Romney campaigned with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

"The truth of the matter is people around the country, people know the Everglades," Biden said. "But they have no comprehension of what an incredible national treasure it is. They have no comprehension of its consequence for, not just Florida, but beyond Florida."

Biden stressed that restoration of the Everglades is an issue that appeals to Americans on the left, the right and in the center.

The speech is likely an attempt to rally Floridians behind President Obama's reelection efforts. His speech came at around the same time that Rubio was campaigning with Romney in Philadelphia.

Biden's speech might have been an act to spoil some of the national attention Romney would receive by campaigning with Rubio, who is seen as a fast rising star within the GOP and perhaps the likeliest legislator to be offered the vice presidential spot on the Republican presidential ticket.
