Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu called the Obama campaign deceitful and “stupid” Thursday when responding to an attack ad by the Obama-aligned super-PAC, Priorities USA.
Sununu said the Priorities USA ad distorted the truth and accused the Obama campaign of lying about coordination with the super-PAC.
Sununu, on Fox News, was responding to an ad that features a laid-off steel worker who said his plant closed as a result of Bain Capital and Mitt Romney. Joe Soptic says his wife was subsequently diagnosed and died of cancer and “I think she didn’t say anything because she knew that we could not afford the insurance.”
The ad ends with Soptic saying, “I do not think Mitt Romney realized what he has done to anyone. And furthermore, I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned.”
Sununu said the ad was a lie, noting that the plant closed seven years after Romney left Bain. And he said the campaign lied about coordinating with Priorities USA.
The Fox News host showed a clip of Stephanie Cutter, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, telling CNN on Wednesday she hadn’t heard about Soptic’s story. The host then played a clip of a conference call with Cutter in May that featured Soptic.
“This not only reveals the character of deceit in this campaign, it also shows you how stupid the White House crowd and this campaign is,” Sununu said.
“And you know the interesting thing is even the liberal media is telling us how despicable this campaign is right now,” he said.
Sununu said the Obama campaign looks for little factoids to twist and will continue to do so until the election.
“What matters in the end is that people are now knowing Obama will lie, his campaign will lie and his PAC will lie, and the fact is they’re going to see 89 more days of dishonesty coming from these people,” Sununu said.
