Ryan said President Obama’s policies foster government dependency and have resulted in a stagnant economy. “We need to tackle the nation’s challenges before they tackle us,” he said, noting that Massachusetts’s credit rating was raised when running mate Mitt Romney was governor in the neighboring state.

Ryan also targeted the president’s signature healthcare law. “In the ‘live free or die state,’ we want to be in control of our own healthcare,” he said.

Ryan argued against defense cuts, saying “we believe in peace through strength.”

“It is not too late to get this right,” he said.
