House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) predicted Mitt
Romney will win in Virginia on Tuesday — and win by a bigger margin than deadlocked polls have shown.
Cantor also said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that former
Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) will beat former Gov. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) in the state's Senate race, which
has seen Allen trailing in the polls.
“On the ground in Virginia there’s a lot of enthusiasm for Mitt
Romney and Paul Ryan,” Cantor said. “We’re going to win this state, and I think
we’re going to win a lot bigger [than polls have shown].”
Virginia is a key state that Mitt Romney needs on his path
to 270 electoral votes, and polls there have shown a tight race.
The Real Clear Politics polling average has Romney with a
tight 0.3 percent lead in Virginia, 47.9 to 47.6, the slimmest of any battleground
state.
President Obama won Virginia for the Democrats for the first
time since 1964, and the state has been hotly contested throughout the
presidential campaign. Obama appeared at a campaign rally with former President
Clinton in Virginia on Saturday evening.
Romney will also be making an appearance in Virginia on
Monday.
In the Virginia Senate race, Kaine has a 0.8 percent lead in the RCP polling average.
