Kansas Republicans trade fire in Senate primary

By Sean J. Miller - 06/09/10 05:38 PM ET

With Arkansas, Nevada and California out of the way, the Kansas Republican Senate primary may move into the spotlight.

The battle between Reps. Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran has been relatively quiet, but Tiahrt released a TV ad Wednesday that may stir things up.

It hits his Republican rival for three conservative sins.

"Moran raises taxes, defends Washington and embraces Obama," the female announcer says in the ad. "Todd Tiahrt takes on taxes, liberals and Obama."

The ad is airing statewide and was produced by the Florida-based Victory Group, according to the Tiahrt campaign. The primary vote will take place Aug. 3. Current Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) is running for governor.
