"Sen. Reid is investing in Nevada's clean energy industry to create jobs and reduce our reliance on oil. Sharron Angle said she wants to 'drill baby, drill' and eliminate the Department of Energy and deregulate the oil industry. Sen. Reid prevented the Bush administration from privatizing Social Security. Angle wants to eliminate the program altogether," Summers said.
"Sen. Reid killed the proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain. She wants to truck nuclear waste across the country to the site that's just 90 miles away from Las Vegas, the world's top tourist destination. Just imagine the effect just one accident would have on the state's top industry. That's why we say her vision is too dangerous for Nevada."
The Angle camp did not respond to a request for comment, but the National Republican Senatorial Committee answered the Reid camp's charges.
"What's dangerous for America is ObamaCare, a $13 trillion debt and double digit unemployment, yet those have been Harry Reid's three biggest accomplishments over the last 27 years he's been in Washington," Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the NRSC, said in an e-mail.
"Both candidates will have a vigorous debate over the next five months but this election will come down to a clear choice for Nevada voters — if you're happy with 13.7 percent unemployment, higher taxes, and an ever-growing federal government, then vote for Harry Reid. But if you want to bring change to Washington and want a leader focused on creating jobs and spending your tax dollars responsibly, then vote for Sharron Angle."
