Sen. McConnell: Kirk victory would be ‘as big as Scott Brown’

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) headlined a fundraiser for Rep. Mark Kirk’s (R-Ill.) Senate campaign Thursday night.

According to the Quincy News, McConnell said electing Kirk in Illinois would prove to be a victory “as big as Scott Brown in Massachusetts.”

McConnell said if Republicans could get 45-plus members in the Senate after the 2010 midterms, they could turn President Barack Obama into a “born-again moderate.”

Meanwhile, Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times accused the Kirk campaign on her blog of being less than candid about the McConnell fundraiser, noting that it wasn’t listed on the candidate’s schedule Thursday.
