Fiorina released from hospital, will resume campaign Thursday

By Jordan Fabian - 10/27/10 01:59 PM ET

California GOP Senate nominee Carly Fiorina was released from the hospital Wednesday after a one-night stay related to her battle with cancer.

Fiorina was admitted to the hospital Tuesday after she developed an infection resulting from the reconstructive surgery from breast cancer. The former HP CEO was previously treated for the cancer and remains free of the disease.

"Since she was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning, Carly has been successfully treated for the infection she had as a result of reconstructive surgery following her victory over breast cancer," her campaign said in a statement. "This morning, her doctors gave her the good news that she will be released from the hospital today and can resume her busy campaign schedule tomorrow."

Fiorina's hospitalization came at a tough time with a week to go in her close race with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.).

"Carly is grateful for the outpouring of well wishes and prayers from so many Californians," Fiorina's campaign said. "She is excited to get back on the campaign trail and to move forward toward a triumph over Barbara Boxer next Tuesday."

Boxer's campaign reacted to the news on Twitter, saying "I wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery. Her staff has said she will released from the hospital today and that's good news."
