Senate Democrats lose incumbent with Feingold defeat

Republican businessman Ron Johnson has toppled Sen. Russell Feingold (D) in Wisconsin, ending the career of the longtime Democratic fixture.

Feingold entered Tuesday down by seven to eight points in most polls, with his numbers having barely budged in months.

Voters in the state have a penchant for splitting their votes between both political parties, and Feingold appears to have been caught up in the prevalent anti-incumbent wave. Johnson is 31 and runs a manufacturing business.
