Hoekstra will air commercials on Super Bowl Sunday

By Cameron Joseph - 02/03/12 10:51 AM ET

Former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) will run commercials across Michigan on Super Bowl Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The $75,000 ad buy does not include time during the game itself, and will be his first commercial of the cycle.

Hoekstra is running for the GOP nomination to face Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) in the fall.

He has shown himself to be a much stronger fundraiser when he ran for governor four years ago, and has $1.5 million cash on hand for his Senate race. But he's playing catch-up: Stabenow has led in polls and has a large cash advantage, despite Hoekstra's early fundraising success.
