Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) has a 5-point lead over Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (R), according to a new survey from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.

Peters leads Land by 41 percent to 36 percent in the automated poll.

Republicans had been high on Land's chances in Michigan earlier this year following a few strong fundraising quarters, but she's struggled a bit on the stump, and Peters's increasing name recognition has helped lift him in the polls. This isĀ the sixth statewide poll in a row that's shown him with a lead, though most still find a competitive race.

The automated poll of 578 registered voters was conducted June 26-29 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
