Carmona within 4 points of Flake in GOP firm’s poll

By Josh Lederman - 05/04/12 09:55 AM ET

Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) has just a 4-point lead over Democrat Richard Carmona in the Senate race in Arizona, according to a poll released Thursday by a Republican firm.

The survey from Magellan Strategies shows Flake leading Carmona 44 percent to 40. That’s the same margin as an internal poll from Carmona’s campaign released last week that also showed him down 4 to Flake.

Earlier polls had suggested Flake’s margin was much wider over his Democratic opponent in a state that tends to elect Republicans in statewide races.

The poll did not test Flake’s primary opponent, businessman Wil Cardon.

The poll of 909 registered Arizona voters was conducted April 30-May 2 using automated telephone interviews, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.25 percentage points.
