Rose Clayton Cochran was thrust in the spotlight during the Mississippi GOP Senate primary earlier this year, after a conservative blogger allegedly took photos of her bedridden photos and posted them online.

"Senator Cochran and his family extend their gratitude to those who cared for Mrs. Cochran during her extended illness,"  Cochran's spokesman Chris Gallegos said in a statement.

Rose, who had a long battle with dementia, has spent the past 13 years in a nursing home in Mississippi

The Cochrans were married in 1964 and have two children and three grandchildren.
