Susan B. Anthony List backs Fischer in Nebraska

A major anti-abortion rights group endorsed Republican Deb Fischer, the rural rancher and Nebraska state senator who pulled off an upset victory last week in the state's GOP Senate primary.

The Susan B. Anthony List's political action committee backed Fischer on Tuesday and said her voting record was solidly anti-abortion.

 “Deb Fischer is a fighter for unborn children and their mothers. Her record in the Nebraska state legislature is one of fighting passionately for pro-life, pro-woman policies,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the PAC's president. “On the other hand, the last time Bob Kerrey was in the U.S. Senate, he voted against the ban on the gruesome practice of partial birth abortion five times. The people of Nebraska want leaders whose voting record reflects their pro-life values.”

The PAC has backed another female candidate, Republican Sarah Steelman, in neighboring Missouri.

Fischer faces Kerrey, the state's former Democratic senator and governor, in the general election. The Hill rates this race as likely Republican.
