Senate candidate jumps the gun on Supreme Court ruling on healthcare law

By Cameron Joseph - 06/21/12 05:02 PM ET

Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock's (R) campaign posted four videos meant to be responses to the Supreme Court ruling on Democrats' healthcare law — except the court hasn't announced its ruling yet.

It's a sign his campaign is prepared for the ruling — if a little sloppy with its execution.

The four videos respond to different permutations of how the Supreme Court might rule: one celebrates the court striking the law down, one promises to repeal the law after it is upheld, and two others discuss a split decision and a narrow ruling.

The videos were quickly removed from Mourdock's YouTube page, but not before the Indiana Democratic Party got copies of them posted to their own Web page.

Mourdock, a Tea Party favorite who beat Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) in a May primary, is locked in a tight race with Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.).

His spokesman laughed off the early posting.

"Like the vast majority of Hoosiers, Richard hopes the Supreme Court strikes down ObamaCare, which our opponent Joe Donnelly dutifully supported," said Mourdock spokesman Christopher Conner. "But as the Boy Scouts say, 'be prepared.' "

The court could have announced its ruling Thursday but did not. It's now likely to be announced on Monday or later next week.

Watch Mourdock spell out his plan to repeal Democrats' healthcare law after the Supreme Court — and then watch him talk about the way forward in three alternate future realities:
