The deep-pocketed EMILY's List is throwing its weight behind California Attorney General Kamala Harris's (D) Senate bid, giving her major support in what's looking more like a coronation than a competitive race.

The move comes as no surprise. The group, which backs pro-abortion-rights Democratic women, has long backed Harris and heaped praise on her when she entered the race. She also was a featured speaker at its anniversary gala earlier this month.

"Kamala Harris is a battle-tested progressive champion," EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock said in a statement. Harris, with the help of her powerful backers, has scared off any serious Democratic competition as she seeks to replace retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.).
