Rehberg hits Tester on coal in new ad

By Cameron Joseph - 09/28/12 03:12 PM ET

Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) slams Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) on coal regulations in a new ad, blaming him for Environmental Protection Agency regulations that the ad says forced a local power plant to shut down.

"Talk is cheap but Jon Tester's actions are costly," the ad's narrator says before playing clips of Tester promising to support a local mine and developing more coal.

"But Tester voted against Bull Mountain and the jobs it created," the ad's narrator charges. "Tester voted for Obama's regulations that are forcing a Billings company to mothball its coal-fire power plant, threatening jobs. With Jon Tester, talk is cheap. But Tester's support of Obama costs Montana jobs."

Tester and Rehberg are in a tight race. Two new Democratic polls out Friday showed Tester leading by a scant two percentage points, while a nonpartisan poll released Thursday showed Rehberg up by the same margin. The state is populist-leaning and energy issues are a big deal there.
