Stabenow wins Senate reelection in Michigan

By Cameron Joseph - 11/06/12 10:09 PM ET

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) has won reelection, The Associated Press reports.

Stabenow leads Hoekstra by 56 to 40 percent, with 4 percent of precincts reporting.

The senator had been an early GOP target, but they struggled with recruitment and former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) made a number of missteps that hurt his campaign, including a controversial early ad many derided as racist and later comments questioning whether President Obama was born in the U.S.

Those comments, Stabenow's relatively high personal favorable numbers, the state's Democratic leanings and the fact that Mitt Romney did not seriously contest the state made it an easy win for her.
