Report: Rep. Capito to run for West Virginia Sen. Rockefeller's seat

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) will announce her bid for Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller's seat on Monday, according to the West Virginia Metro News.

The seven-term congresswoman declined to run against Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin this year but is considered a strong contender for the seat.

The 75-year-old Rockefeller is currently in his fifth term, and could retire, though he has not yet announced his plans for the upcoming cycle. He's won nearly all of his elections with sizable margins.

Her Senate bid means that Capito's 2nd District seat will be open in 2014.
