Kentucky's Dem governor won't run against Mitch McConnell

By Cameron Joseph - 12/05/12 05:27 PM ET

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) won't run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

"I have no interest in running for that or any other office," he told Kentucky reporters on Wednesday.

McConnell appears to be in fairly strong shape for the general election in the heavily Republican state, though Democrats have continued to mention actress Ashley Judd as a possible candidate.

Beshear said he didn't know whether or not she'd run.

"Whether or not she will end up in the elective arena or not, I don't have any idea," he said. "I think it's too early to know what direction she will go or what direction a lot of other people who are thinking about it will go."
