Rep. Braley meeting with Harry Reid, DSCC Chairman Bennet about Iowa Senate race

By Cameron Joseph - 01/31/13 10:39 AM ET

Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) will sit down with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) on Thursday.

Braley told Iowa reporters that they'd asked to meet with him. He's been considering a run for the Senate seat left open by longtime Sen. Tom Harkin's (D-Iowa) decision to retire. The seat is Iowa's first open Senate seat since Harkin won it in 1985.

While Iowa has leaned slightly Democratic at the presidential level in recent years, it's still very much a swing state — and if Republicans put forward a strong candidate, it could be a top race this cycle.
