Sestak hints at desire to serve again in public office
Former Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.), who narrowly defeated former Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) in the 2010 U.S. Senate primary before ultimately coming up short against Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), said Tuesday that he hopes to again seek public office.
“I want to serve again, and want to do it right,” the former congressman told the Delaware County Daily Times in an email.
The newspaper had inquired whether the former two-term congressman was considering a bid for Pennsylvania governor. But Sestak was also asked about the possibility of making another bid for the U.S. Senate, and seemed amenable to the idea.
A rematch against Toomey would not occur until the 2016 campaign cycle. Republican Gov. Tom Corbett is up for reelection in 2014, and is considered a vulnerable target for Democrats. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) is also thought to be weighing a gubernatorial bid.
Sestak added he was currently enjoying his duties teaching at Carnegie Mellon and Cheyney universities, saying the positions were “permitting me to ensure my decision is right as I have long drives to think, and youth in class to invigorate me.”
