Kentucky Gov.: Ashley Judd ‘seriously considering’ a Senate run

By Jonathan Easley - 03/05/13 04:28 PM ET

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) said Tuesday that a conversation he had with actress Ashley Judd last week convinced him that she’s “seriously considering” running for Senate.

“I talked to her again the other day, she called me and we had a good conversation,” Beshear said at a press conference with local reporters. “I would say without getting into the specifics of the conversation that I’m convinced she’s seriously considering a race for the United States Senate and the Democratic primary and we’ll see where it goes.”

Judd is weighing a bid against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and if she runs, the race will headline the 2014 Senate cycle.

Judd has met with top Democratic campaign officials as well as political leaders and potential donors in her home state ofKentucky. The actress was in Washington over the weekend speaking at a George Washington University event on women's health issues. On Saturday night she attended a gala for the Global India Fund.
