DSCC raises nearly twice as much as NRSC in February

By Alexandra Jaffe - 03/20/13 04:24 PM ET

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) raised $4.3 million in February, bringing in nearly twice as much as the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) during the same month.

It's a record off-year February for the committee, and $2 million of the more than $4 million sum came from grassroots donors, according to the committee. The DSCC has more than $5 million cash on hand.

The NRSC raised just under $2.2 million in February, and has $3 million cash on hand.

It's the second month in a row that the DSCC has outraised the NRSC. In January, the Democratic committee brought in $2.7 million more than the Republican committee.

Up until recently, however, the NRSC had not yet hired a finance team for the coming cycle. The committee announced in January that Shelly Carson, who worked on Mitt Romney's 2008 presidential campaign, will serve as the NRSC's finance director, and it announced today the hiring of four deputy finance directors and a PAC director underneath her.
