Kingston makes statewide plans as Senate talk swirls

The Savannah-based congressman has two press conferences planned on Thursday and more events on Friday including a big-dollar "kick off reception" that evening, according to GaPundit.com.

The congressman has long been expected to run for the seat held by retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), and raised nearly $850,000 in the last fundraising quarter as he geared up for a campaign.

He will join Reps. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) in the race. Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) is expected to make a decision later this month on the race, and a handful of self-funding businessmen as well as former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) are also considering campaigns, though Handel is unlikely to run if Price does.
