In the interview, Kingston acknowledged that the Republican primary fight had the potential to bruise the eventual nominee.

“I think a Democrat has a shot under certain circumstances — if we come out of the primary divided and broke and bloody,” he said. “If I’m the nominee, a Democrat will not have that shot.”

The Savannah-based congressman is planning a media tour through the state Thursday and Friday. He has already raised $850,000 in the past quarter, an indication he has been planning his Senate bid.
