McMahon's big purchase

Remember all the hand-wringing in 2008 over just how many properties John McCain had?

Whether it was actually eight or 11, Linda McMahon appears to be giving him a run for his money, so to speak.

A local newspaper reported Monday that the Connecticut Senate candidate and her husband, WWE CEO Vince McMahon, own seven properties. They include a $4 million penthouse duplex in the Trump Parc tower in Stamford, Conn., that they bought late last year, after she had launched her Senate campaign.

McMahon (R) and her husband closed on the property in October, the month after she had begun her campaign for Senate, and her opponents will surely be after her for the timing of it all.

McMahon spokesman Ed Patru emphasizes that a deposit was made on the property as far back as November 2007, before she got involved in politics.

"And I’ll remind you that unlike Simmons or Blumenthal, Linda didn’t inherit her resources” or marry into money, Patru said. "She was born in a middle class family, started with bankruptcy and earned the money herself through hard work."
