Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) isn't the only Hutchison that NRSC Chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas) is wooing.
Susan Hutchison, a former TV anchorwoman and local political candidate in Washington state, has emerged as a potential candidate against Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). She told The Hill on Monday that she spoke with Cornyn a few weeks ago and that she has looked at a Senate run "for years."
Cornyn mentioned Hutchison on Monday at a meeting with reporters, and she appears to be emerging as a chief alternative in case former gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi opts not to run.
"We had a wonderful conversation several weeks ago," Hutchison said.
She said she also talked to Rossi recently, and that she would support him if he ran.
"Dino has the most name recognition of any Republican in the state," she said. "So he would be a very viable candidate."
Hutchison lost a campaign for King County Executive in 2009, but Republicans feel she could at least provide a worthy opponent for Murray.
