Poll: Etheridge in dead heat after confrontation

A new poll finds Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) in a dead heat with his GOP opponent just days after video surfaced of the incumbent confronting a questioner in Washington, D.C.

The poll was conducted by Civitas, Inc., a Republican firm, and finds Etheridge garnering just 38 percent of the vote, compared to 39 percent for Republican challenger Renee Ellmers. Libertarian candidate Tom Rose receives 12 percent support.

Etheridge wasn't considered particularly vulnerable before the incident, and only more polls can tell how much it's truly affected his standing in the district.

The Civitas poll surveyed 400 people and has a margin of error of +/- 5 percent.
