RNC says signs point to 'significant gains' for GOP in elections
Republicans are "poised to make significant gains" in this fall's elections, the Republican National Committee's (RNC) political director told party members.
Pointing to the latest results of the NBC/Wall Street Journal survey in particular, RNC political director Gentry Collins in a memo to members of the committee on Thursday wrote that trendlines pointed toward Republican victories.
"The polling demonstrates the vulnerability of Democrats in this mid-term election cycle and how our Party is poised to make significant gains this November," Collins said.
The memo highlighted in particular President Barack Obama's growing disapproval rating, as well as the polls' increasingly upside-down number on the traditional "right track/wrong track" measure. The RNC also touted numbers that showed a slight voter preference for a Republican-controlled Congress, and an even stronger resonance for GOP messaging on deficits and spending.
Collins also promoted the RNC's efforts to put resources on the ground over the next 19 weeks until the election on behalf of Republican candidates.
"In addition to our daily messaging and political ground game, the RNC is using its resources to invest in Victory programs throughout our country to ensure that each state has what it needs to compete aggressively and be successful in November," he said. "These resources will allow the Republican Party to deliver a clear message to voters that it’s time to stand-up to Barak Obama’s big-government agenda."
A key measure of those efforts will be reports the RNC and the other Republican House and Senate campaign committees will have to file with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by the end of the month. Republicans are hoping to build on growing fundraising parity with Democratic committees -- especially compared to previous cycles -- if not surpass their counterparts this cycle.
