Kagan cracks joke about Jews on Christmas at hearing
Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan cracked a joke during her Tuesday confirmation hearing, which has been largely devoid of drama.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked the solicitor general where she was Christmas Eve during a discussion about the bombing attempt of an airliner in Detroit.
"Like all Jews, I was probably at a Chinese restaurant," Kagan quipped.
Kagan also referenced her Judaism during questions about an Israeli justice she said influenced her legal thinking.
"As you know, I don't think it's a secret I am Jewish," she said. "The State of Israel has meant a lot to me and my family. And — and I admire Justice Barak for what he's done for the State of Israel and ensuring an independent judiciary."
